Get ready to feed your theatrical appetite: the cult classic Little Shop of Horrors is coming to Brisbane in 2026. If you love rock, dark comedy, puppetry, and a bit of horror with flair, this one’s for you.

Why Little Shop of Horrors Continues to Captivate

Since its Off-Broadway debut in 1982, Little Shop of Horrors has grown into one of musical theatre’s most enduring cult favourites. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics/book by Howard Ashman, it mashes up ‘60’s rock, doo-wop, sci-fi, and horror strobes into a darkly comic spectacle.

The plot’s deliciously twisters: Seymour, a desperate floral assistant, stumbles across a strange plant he names Audtry II (after his co-worked crush Audrey). But this plant isn’t just any exotic species, it grows bigger, hungers for blood, and promises fame in exchange for sinister deeds.

What makes it special is how it blends fun and danger, kitsch and pathos, laughter and tension. Add in the puppetry (Audrey II is often run as a puppet in multiple stages) and you get a show that’s visually striking as well as emotionally compelling.
